What Is It You Actually Do Here?
The Director of Brand Strategy is responsible for shaping the strategic direction of client brands and guiding the internal team in delivering high-quality strategic work. This role collaborates closely with account, creative, and media teams to ensure every project is grounded in insight, aligned with client goals, and positioned for measurable success.
The ideal candidate is equal parts strategist, leader, researcher, storyteller, and collaborator.
Key Responsibilities
Brand Strategy & Positioning
- Lead the development of brand positioning, messaging frameworks, and value propositions.
- Conduct competitive audits, category analysis, and brand architecture development.
- Translate research and insights into actionable brand strategies that guide creative execution.
Research, Insights & Discovery
- Oversee quantitative and qualitative research, including interviews, surveys, persona development, and landscape analysis.
- Present insights in a clear, compelling, and narrative-driven way for both internal teams and clients.
- Identify emerging cultural, consumer, and industry trends that inform brand strategies.
Strategic Planning & Creative Alignment
- Partner with the Creative Director to ensure strategy informs concepting, campaigns, and content.
- Develop campaign strategies, briefs, and strategic springboards for creative teams.
- Ensure all strategic outputs align with clients’ business objectives and KPIs.
Client Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead strategic conversations with clients, including workshops, presentations, and planning sessions.
- Serve as a senior strategic advisor, helping clients identify opportunities, clarify challenges, and shape long-term brand direction.
- Build strong, trusting relationships that support agency growth and account expansion.
Internal Leadership & Process Development
- Establish and refine strategic processes, frameworks, and methodologies for the agency.
- Mentor junior strategists, account managers, and creatives in strategic thinking.
- Collaborate with leadership to shape agency offerings, service lines, and new business strategy.
New Business & Agency Growth
- Contribute to pitch development, research, and strategic narratives for new business efforts.
- Support agency leadership in identifying new opportunities within existing accounts.
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in brand strategy, strategic planning, or a related strategic role within an agency or brand environment.
- Ability to translate complex information into clear, persuasive strategic recommendations.
- Strong presentation skills with the ability to command a room.
- Experience leading research projects, workshops, and strategic discoveries.
- Strong understanding of branding, marketing, consumer behavior, and creative development processes.
- Leadership experience managing teams, processes, and cross-departmental collaboration.
