Why Video Marketing is a must in 2022

Ok, ok, ok, ok. I know this exact format is blog content BUT video marketing is the supreme beast when it comes to overall content marketing. Which is why, YES, we created a video about videos.

Does anyone remember a time when we didn’t sit down and watch TV? No? Same here. Motion has been at the forefront of storytelling since most anyone alive can remember.

Things have changed quite a bit since Leave it to Beaver. The pace has quickened, we’ve evolved. Our minds are evolving faster and faster with each generation. And this is why content is getting shorter and shorter.

Enter shorter commercials, faster paced pieces of cinema, and social media.

Now I went to art school, and math (or writing blog posts) is not my strong suit. However, here is an “equation” for you:

Time = the same number of hours each day

Videos are taking less time to view.

Which means, we’re creating gaps of time in our day where video isn’t being seen.

So what do we do?

MAKE MORE VIDEOS. Short and sweet and to the point. But also, GOOD.

So what is it about video marketing anyways? Why is it everywhere and why are brands doing it?

We can all speculate, but the truth of the matter is - it works.

A 2020 HubSpot article cited that having a video on your landing page can boost your conversions by 80%. Mama like.

However, you can’t have a video that is slapped together for the sake of conversions. The quality must be good and the message must be compelling. Nothing will decrease your engagement more than a poorly thought out and put together video.

And shout out to search engines that love video almost as much as the cookie monster loves … well, cookies. This is because video encourages longer page views. Duh! And did you know that Youtube is the second largest search engine right after Google. So why wouldn’t every business be serious about creating video?

Even putting the word “video” in your email marketing campaign subject line can increase your open rates.  Because, who doesn’t want to be entertained?

Speaking of being entertained, the more entertained you are, the more likely you are to share that piece of content. Video marketing is one of the most re-shared forms of content in marketing today. 92% of mobile video consumers share their videos with others. Here’s one of my favorites

And maybe you aren’t creating content to become “viral”. Who wants to have the wind knocked out of them while they’re stomping grapes (cheating) anyways? But you should still consider how intimate and open video marketing can make your brand become.

You can easily build trust with video marketing. Giving consumers a glimpse at your brand, in motion, with an actual personality. You can’t match it. 90% of consumers use product guide videos to help them understand a future purchase.

In 2019, video was the #1 form of media used in content strategy, overtaking blogs (like this one) and infographics according to the 2020 State of Marketing. And it has remained the reigning queen to this day.

Now. I’m not here to say you should be creating video content constantly, 24/7. No, no. I’m saying consider more video in your content marketing budgets. But remember, always be strategic and always give yourself the leg up with quality video
