Georgia Cyber Center Video
A Video of Epic Proportions
For the ribbon cutting of the Shaffer MacCartney building, which makes up the second half of the Georgia Cyber Center, we were asked to create the biggest (metaphorically and physically) video we’ve ever done. Not only were we dealing with a massive digital canvas, we were tasked with articulating the vision, culture and importance of the facility, and of cyber in general, for our community, region and nation.
High-Lighting Up the Evening
Our video set the tone for the ribbon cutting’s celebration of technology and collaboration. Looping on a near 32-foot-wide screen via NanoLumens, the vignettes featuring key strengths of the Georgia Cyber Center created an inspiring backdrop for the reception.
“The video does a great job communicating the Georgia Cyber Center’s vision to lead a revolution in cybersecurity. The message is clear, the Georgia Cyber Center is a bridge between the learners of today and the jobs of tomorrow.”
Michael Shaffer / Executive Vice President for Strategic Partnerships and Economic Development at Augusta University
The Challenge
“Wier / Stewart was on point throughout this entire project. With a short turnaround time, the team worked closely with the Georgia Cyber Center and created a unique video that communicated the exact message and content we needed.”
Todd Gay / Director, Outreach and Engagement at Georgia Cyber Center
Our Solve
We created our video to function as a series of vignettes – to act as an art installation. This was to follow both the design of the Georgia Cyber Center itself and to mimic the gallery-like feeling created by the local artwork throughout the space. We mixed high contrast, tech-heavy animation with colorful breaks, dynamic transitions and 4K natural imagery to create an almost 5 minute continuously looping piece that makes sense whether you see 2 minutes or 2 seconds.
Maxing Out the Machine
The video’s complexity originally outstripped the driving computer’s ability to play it. On the fly adjustments had to be made to make it run smoothly.
Never Ending Story
Although technically beginning in the middle of the piece, the start-over point of the video creates a seamless loop.
A Good Night
Having worked with the file and the settings of the screen during the day, it was hard to imagine just how good it ended up looking at night. Real good.
“Working with motion at this scale was inspiring. It’s difficult to envision how speed, timing and transitions will play, when so much larger than life. Underpinning all our vignettes with solid rationale was crucial to getting it right.”
Moritz Kathe / Creative Lead
“This was definitely an opportunity to really go all out with animation and to take advantage of scale. At the end of the day, though, much like everything else, technical execution isn’t that impressive without a solid message. Viewers can take away small points or the entire story of the Georgia Cyber Center from our video.”
Alex Wier / Founder, CCO
