Morris Museum of Art

Devoted to the art and artists of the American South.

Our website design for the Morris Museum of Art updated a site that was designed in a pre-mobile internet world and had grown into a sprawling, difficult to maintain property. The content-heavy site was restructured into clear, descriptively named sections to help guide users to the information they seek. The homepage highlights the exhibitions, events, news, and information most searched for and accessed by users planning a visit or other type of engagement or interaction with the museum. As you dig deeper into the site we catered to a connected audience of educators, researchers, and docents-in-training who use the site as an information resource.

Knowing that 50% of the site’s users visit on a mobile device, we focused on a mobile-first experience that doesn’t compromise usability or access to content.

The design’s visual hierarchy, neutral palette and use of white space highlights selected works from the museum’s collection. Photos of the museum’s galleries prepare potential visitors for their visit and help reflect the personality and tone of the Morris.

The website's News section features timely events and announcements and allows the museum to highlight newsworthy stories. This easy-to-update feature keeps the website's content fresh and ensures that visitors see the most relevant information up front.

“We knew all too well that completely redesigning the museum’s website would be quite a daunting task; however, Wier / Stewart rose to the occasion in every way. They designed a clean, crisp, and elegant site that is easier to navigate and easier to update. The museum staff is beyond thrilled with the results. Bravo, W/S! You’ve done it again!”

“The Morris is a gem for both the city of Augusta and as a showcase for art in the South. We were proud to create a site that represents it well.”
