Painting the Town Blue (grass)

One of our favorite projects every year is getting to design the posters for the Morris Museum of Art's Southern Soul and Song Series. Each time we do it, we're challenged with finding a new way to make our artwork hyper Southern and specifically local. This year, we embraced the architecture of Augusta's Historic Downtown and payed homage to the myriad ghost ads covering old businesses, bars and barns across the town.

These images are close to home. Literally, (not figuratively, literally) all the buildings are in a three block radius from where I live and work. Researching these artists, and digging through their musical catalog allows me to include relevant visual references. Whether it’s a Martha White tagline, a cow riding a train, or a cowboy hat with a ring on it, working on these feels like Christmas, but I guess it’s more like Easter because of the eggs I get to hide. This work feels like play.
