Southern Soul & Song

Painting the Town Blue (grass)

One of our favorite projects every year is getting to design the posters for the Morris Museum of Art's Southern Soul and Song Series. Each time we do it, we're challenged with finding a new way to make our artwork hyper Southern and specifically local. This year, we embraced the architecture of Augusta's Historic Downtown and payed homage to the myriad ghost ads covering old businesses, bars and barns across the town.

“These images are close to home. Literally, (not figuratively, literally) all the buildings are in a three block radius from where I live and work. Researching these artists, and digging through their musical catalog allows me to include relevant visual references. Whether it’s a Martha White tagline, a cow riding a train, or a cowboy hat with a ring on it, working on these feels like Christmas, but I guess it’s more like Easter because of the eggs I get to hide. This work feels like play.”

For Goodness' Sake

Because every nonprofit client is vastly different, the main challenge in building the site was communicating what Good Works can do for any visitor's philanthropic cause. In Victoria's words, "If you've seen one nonprofit, you've seen one nonprofit." The site's Client Spotlights highlight the nitty gritty details of Victoria's capabilities, and the Blog serves as a resource for anyone in the industry, client or not. Overall, the Good Works site serves as a healthy introduction to Victoria and invites potential clients to start a conversation about their organization's needs.

“Hatch Show Print out of Nashville had produced posters for our Southern Soul & Song concert series. Alex Wier asked if Wier/Stewart could give it a shot. They designed and hand screen printed the posters for our 2009-2010 series and knocked it out of the park; which is why they are still designing them for us today. The designs and themes vary year to year, but the creativity and high quality remain constant – their just dang good looking posters.”
